You don’t need a special TV to watch 3D shows. You do, however, need special glasses so that the 3D technology works.
There was a Chuck episode broadcast after the Superbowl this year that was in 3D and did not require any sort of special TV, but it did use the 3D glasses that were given out for the Superbowl.

If it is the red and blue 3d format then that will work on any color television because it just uses color to block and unblock the double images. It is possible that it is for the shutter glasses but I really doubt it. It should say on the cover if it come with red and blue glasses, if so you can use any dvd player and color television.
