    As I understand it, The light behind the liquid crystals is provided by light emitting diodes instead of some florescent material. This is to improve the contrast ratio.

    LED is LCD hdtv with LED backlight.It have better picture quality than LCD, deeper black with mega dynamic contrast ratio,thinner set and 40% less power consumption
