Tips When Getting An Ipad

August 31st, 2010

Kim Ponce asked:

The new iPad once again hit the market by storm. Like the earlier counterparts, the iPad is now quite popular among techy individuals. This March 2010, the Wi-Fi version is going to be released in the market followed by the 3G version. Getting an iPad is very easy, especially if you prefer to make online purchases.

If you are interested to buy the iPad, you will need to contact the manufacturer - Apple. Go to the website of Apple so that make a reservation once the Wi Fi and the 3G versions are released. You will also benefit from regular contact with AT&T.

AT&T usually knows when the release dates will be as well as the delivery dates. Knowing when the product is going to be available in the market can help you in making a purchase at the right time. Try to call the office frequently.

Once you’ve determined the release date of the iPad, you may need to go to the store at an earlier hour and fall in line. If you’re lucky, you can be the first one to arrive in the store to get the iPad! Apple usually sends out the info to their mailing list, and if you’re not included, you might miss the opportunity but since you contacted AT&T, you still have a chance.

Are you familiar with eBay? Well, this is also a great place where you can find an iPad. Some press people might have already received their iPads and now they are auctioning their gadget on eBay. It would be best to contact eBay and set up an alert using the iPad as the keyword.

Another option would be to become a tester. Product testers are quite popular these days. These people are responsible for testing out certain gadgets including the iPad! If you become a tester, you can get an iPad for free once you’ve completed the job.

Getting an iPad is not that hard. If you are looking forward to getting the Wi-Fi and 3G version, make sure that you follow the steps mentioned earlier. The iPad is a great investment, especially if you love listening to music, watching videos, saving photos, or surfing the web.

Why I Want An Ipad

August 29th, 2010

Rainco asked:

Over the past week we’ve looked at why the iPad will be good for contractors and why you might not be the target audience for the device. After considerable thought, I’d like to share why I want an iPad.

I’m not an Apple fanboy – the only Apple device I currently own is a 4 year-old refurbished iPod Nano. I don’t carry an iPhone – I use a Samsung Ace Windows Mobile smartphone. I still like the device because it’s tiny and has great battery life for my trips. I was recently scolded for not using Keynote for my presentations. My main computer is a refurbished Dell XPS M1330 laptop which I’ve enjoyed over the past year although lately the fan has made so much noise that I can’t bring it to SXSW with me. I have been considering purchasing the new Asus ULvt30 laptop as it has a super battery and looks like it would meet my needs well.

So why do I want the Apple iPad? It’s been bashed from blog to blog and fanboys are torching their shrines to Steve Jobs. (side note, I wonder if the fanboys would have loved the device if Jobs gave one to everyone in the audience. You know, just like Google did with the Nexus One. Didn’t see much **** over that way, did ya?)

The Asus laptop weighs in at just under 4 pounds. It’s got great specs and will work perfectly for coding, working on my startup, and all the other heavy lifting that a computer is meant to handle. Everyday I am in NYC at an event, meeting an entrepreneur looking for advice or meeting with a customer of my startup. Many times it would be nice to have a device that I can whip out in a second and show off my startup, look at other startups, review a presentation, etc. Typically I use my mobile for checking my various email accounts and browsing the web using the Skyfire mobile browser. The iPad will be able to handle everything I’ve listed and more and I can travel around with a 1.5 pound machine. If I take the laptop with me, it’s lugging around a 3x heavier machine and then I also have to take a bigger (and heavier) laptop bag as well. The iPad will fit into my lightweight bag with no issues.

ReadWriteWeb had an interesting post about how the iPad will allow startups to create “instant demos”. I very much agree with this premise and could see startups purchasing one just for the demo ability.

I am also hoping that I can use the iPad as my new music playing device where I start a playlist, “hold” the device and stick it into my bag and the music keeps playing.

Based on what I have read, it does appear that I will have some gripes with the device. First, it has no camera – a camera would have been excellent for networking and I am guessing it will be on version 2 – isn’t that how Jobs creates his devices? Jobs says the battery will last 10 hours which probably means 3-4 in real life. I certainly hope the power cord is super light and easy to carry. The iPad also apparently can’t handle multi-tasking which seems stupid because many times you will want to browse the web and listen to a song in your iTunes collection. Apparently there is some issue where Flash doesn’t work on the iPad — not exactly sure how this will affect my Web usage but it is something to consider.

Update: The comments seem to indicate you can play a song in iTunes and work in the browser.

From what I can tell so far, the iPad might also improve my productivity while I am out and about because I can load up on apps that I can use to keep better track of everything going on in my life from scheduling to note taking to contact management.

It looks like there will be adapters that will connect into the iPad to allow for some external functions. I am hoping that a foldable keyboard is one of those options. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like you can carry a second battery. It would also be great if you can plug the iPad into a projector for large group demos and presentations.

I’m not sure whether I will purchase the model with the 3G. My Ace phone handles Bluetooth tethering very well so I could just use that when needed. I’m guessing you can’t add on the 3G later so my guess is that I will take the 3G version. I’m quite certain I will go for the least expensive version. The 3G service plans seem expensive to me – especially since if you only use it a drop, you still pay for the entire month. I am actually willing to bet that one of the sweet spots for the iPad will be for people who are happy with their cell phone but want a smarter device without buying an iPhone or Droid.

So to summarize why I want an iPad:

lightweight ability to check and respond to emails and handle customer inquiries for my startup web browser productivity apps meeting functionality (review presentations, review apps, discussions) long battery life new music player to replace my old Nano

I’d also like to note that I am sure there are other tablet machines on the market that are worth looking into. I have not started this research yet but plan to before looking at the iPad for purchase.

Had the device been available for purchase before SXSW, my bet is that you would see 1,000 or more of the devices in the convention center.

The iPad could also replace my wish of moving into a new mobile device this year. If I have an iPad that tethers to my phone and my phone to handle calls (which Sprint does perfectly), then I am all set.

Overall I think the iPad will be a huge winner for Apple. Ithink the price will drop a bit by mid-year which will get more mainstream users excited about the device. Now I need to work on getting more pageviews so I can pay for the new iPad device.

Apple iPad Review

August 27th, 2010

John Wells asked:

Amongst the furore of speculations and the myths surrounding its new tablet PC Apple finally launched the iPad. It will be available in 16, 32, and 64 GB memory specifications, with the host of connectivity options including Bluetooth, 802.11n WiFi and optional 3G. An optional 3G will however cost you an additional $130. iPad as we said earlier, is a touchscreen tablet PC that comes with a half inch thin body, a 9.7 inch display, and weighs around 1.5 pounds.

The iPad price differs with the memory and connectivity options. The pricing goes like $499 for a 16-gigabyte model, $599 for a 32 GB version and $699 for a 64-gigabyte model with Wi-Fi. For communications and interface, the Apple iPad include a 30-pin Dock connector, a speaker, a microphone, as well as an accelerometer and a compass. It further features a keyboard dock, which connects underneath in the portrait orientation and offers a manual keyboard.

The display for the Apple iPad is really good, with wider viewing angle and an optimal screen resolution. It supports a resolution of 1024×768 for VGA out along with a 480p composite out through the dock adapter cables. A camera attachment kit is further integrated to import photos from your camera via USB or directly through an SD card reader. Being a multitasking device, the Apple iPad runs on a custom 1GHz Apple “A4″ chip processor, which does the job pretty well.

A expected, the iPad has more or less similar functions to the Apple’s popular iPhone or iPod Touch. With the only difference being the introduction of iBookStore – an eReader, in the Apple iPad tablet. The software giant has also integrated multi-language support which includes languages like language support for English, French, German, Japanese, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Russian.

The Apple iPad Tablet, integrates a 10-hour battery life and a month of standby, which definitely serves good for the device. Although Apple promised a good browsing experience, we are quite unsure about this thing as the iPad does not supports flash, an integral part of almost 90% web pages online.

If you’re looking out for Apple iPad Reviews that give you an inside out story of this touch tablet PC, then please log on to www.thinkdigit.com. One of the latest Apple iPad Review talks about the screen capability along with user interface. It is a two part review, wherein the second part talks about the application and the device’s performance in usage scenarios.

Who Would Pay For Ipad?

August 24th, 2010

Dorisking3 asked:

iPad born, to buy or not to buy, that’s a question.

On January 27th, 2010?Apple finally unveiled its fabled tablet computer, called the iPad. This device looks akin to a large iPhone or iPod touch. It supports a 9.7 inch LCD touch-screen display, which makes use of the same multi-touch technology found on the iPhone, Apple’s Magic Mouse, and its notebook trackpads. It also has the same in-plane switching display technology that made its debut in the crop of iMacs. Thus, many people especially those who have already got an ipod touch or iphone, hold an interrogative views on making decisions of to buy or not.

However, for Apple, the position of iPad is very clear. Knowing that device with price below $400 is iPod Touch, with price above $1000 are MacBook and MacBook Pro, in the difference of more than $500, iPad does have a great stage for performing besides NetBooks.

Anyhow, from users’ point, I believe everyone has his own answer to the question of “Who Would Buy iPad?”

In fact, iPad is not purely a large version of iPhone. It also has its unique traits, such as up to 10 hours battery life while surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching videos, or listening to music, larger screens, numerous first-party apps, etc. Combining with the common usage of : web surfing, mail, contacts, calendar, photos, music, video, game, ibooks, etc. iPad could be popular with users of needs below:

1. To be used for tourism. In a trip for one week, taking a notebook is too heavy for the tourism. By using the iPad, you can not only watch the photos shot during the trip, but also don’t need to find power cables in the airport.

2. To be used in car. During a family journey by car, we always have to take PSP or NSDL in order to get the boredom away. With an iPad, family members on the rear seat can watch even DVD movies , of course you should convert DVDs to iPad before and fix the iPad on the back of the front seat.

3. To be used in kitchen. Currently, more and more families like to put a little TV in kitchen so that no news would be missed during the cooking process. It is very difficult to set a notebook in kitchen without getting the notebook wet or saving any tiny spaces with its keyboard.iPad is the key to this confusing problem by being hanged onto the wall or put onto the table. At that time, no matter news or youtube videos, and even dvd movies (convert DVD to iPad before) could be played on it. What’s more, you could use the iPad as an e-menu since it has a super large screen and powerful function of net surfing and multi-touch.

4. For students and Children use. With an accessory of blue-tooth keyboard and an up to 10 hours battery life, students can use it for taking notes and study from 8 am to 5 pm without any difficulties. If you find many good educational DVDs, you could convert them onto iPad by some iPad-optimized apps, such as Wondershare DVD to iPad Converter, and teach your children anywhere at any time.

5. For the elderly use. iPad is very easy to use, since with poor eyesight, adjusting the size of characters on normal notebook’s HD screen is not easy, but for iPad, its zooming is very easy and swift, which is more convenient for the elderly. Moreover, the maintenance is easier than normal PC, there is no need to worry about the virus or Trojans. And with such a large screen, watching videos and e-books will be surely enjoyable.

Why iPad could triumph Macbook and Netbook ?

1. Macbook can not be connected with internets at your pleasure, which is exactly the unique selling point of iPad.

2. The average price of the Macbook is above $1000 which is much more expensive than iPad.

3. Netbook is almost the same as a cheap notebook, while iPad is a powerful entertainment table, not only with the function of net surfing but also with many unique traits and functions to meet users’ more needs.

Ok, are you clear enough now to make a decision? Like a guest in the show named Wait wait, Don’t Tell Me in NPR, when he firstly saw the iPad, he said , ” That is it ?”, after understanding more of its function, he said, ” I want one.” That’s the glamour what’s Apple always good at.

Buy Apple Ipad

August 22nd, 2010

thesolarhome asked:

The large Multi-Touch screen on Buy Apple Ipad you see web pages as they were meant to be seen — one page at a time. With vibrant color and sharp text. So whether you’re looking at a page in portrait or landscape, you can see everything at a size that’s actually readable. And with iPad, navigating the web has never been easier or more intuitive. Because you use the most natural pointing device there is: your finger. Scroll through a page just by flicking your finger up or down on the screen. Or pinch to zoom in or out on a photo. There’s also a thumbnail view that shows all your open pages in a grid, to let you quickly move from one page to the next.

See and touch your email in ways you never could before. In landscape, you get a split-screen view showing both an opened email and the messages in your inbox. To see the opened email by itself, turn iPad to portrait, and the email automatically rotates and fills the screen. No matter which orientation you use, you can scroll through your mail, compose a new email using the large, onscreen keyboard, or delete messages with nothing more than a tap and a flick. If someone emails you a photo, you can see it right in the message. You can also save the photos in an email directly to the built-in Photos app. And iPad works with all the most popular email providers, including MobileMe, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, and AOL.

With its crisp, vibrant display and unique software features, iPad is an extraordinary way to enjoy and share your photos. For example, the Photos app displays the photos in an album as though they were in a stack. Just tap the stack, and the whole album opens up. From there, you can flip through your pictures, zoom in or out, or watch a slideshow. You can even use your iPad as a beautiful digital photo frame while it’s docked or charging. And there are lots of ways to import photos: You can sync them from your computer, download them from an email, or import them directly from your camera using the optional Camera Connection Kit.
